The Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins are suing their former record label for tarnishing their credibility.

According to Billboard.com, the Smashing Pumpkins are suing Virgin Records claiming that the label used their name and music illegally for ads, putting their credibility at stake.

In the documents filed, the group stated that they have spent the last two decades trying to restore their credibility.  They believe that Virgin’s use of their music in promos for Amazon.com and Pepsi may affect their artistic integrity.

Virgin Records, who distributed the work by the Smashing Pumpkins for more than 17 years, did not have permission to use their music for advertising purposes.

The Smashing Pumpkins recently launched an acoustic EP, American Gothic. Their last album (Zeitgeist), came out last year via Warner Bros.
