The 33-year-old celebrity announced Monday (March 3) on Winfrey’s show that she was donating $1 million to the World Food Programme, which helps African children stricken by famine.
Barrymore explained, "I have seen with my own eyes what a difference a simple cup of nutritious porridge can make in a child’s life. It helps them learn, stay healthy and sets them on track for a bright future."
The actress has been involved with the organisation since 2005 and has visited Kenya twice as an ambassador for the World Food Programme. The organisation’s objective is to feed 10 million children by Thanksgiving.
