The first disc from Deschanel, Volume 1, is a collaboration with musician and producer M. Ward, and will be released on March 18 as part of the duo She & Him, reports Billboard.
Ward worked with Deschanel after she sent him some of her demo recordings. He said, “Her voice doesn’t sound like anything else that’s out there. All I really had to do is press record. I feel like she secretly had been working on a first record for years but kept it under her hat and focused on acting.”
Ten songs will be included on the disc from Merge Records, including remakes of the Beatles’ I Should Have Known Better and You Really Got a Hold on Me by Smokey Robinson.
Other artists who collaborated with Ward on Volume 1 include Mike Coykendall and Rachel Blumberg.
