After working on the movie Juno, Page is now plunging into the Mandate Pictures film Whip It!, where Barrymore will make her directorial debut.
The 20-year-old actress will be playing Bliss, a young girl from Texas, whose parents have her compete in many beauty contests. Bliss decides to rebel and joins a roller derby team.
Barrymore thought for a long time about directing this movie, but when Page accepted the starring role, Barrymore signed on as director. Barrymore explained, "I’ve been working toward the goal of directing my entire life. Whip It! is a story that really spoke to me."
Page admires Barrymore and stated, "I really admire how Drew constantly challenges herself as an artist. She’s proven herself as an actress and a producer, and I have no doubt she’ll bring great vision and creativity to the director’s chair."
This movie will cost about $10 million, and will be filmed in Texas.
