According to FemaleFirst, actor Jake Gyllenhaal proposed during the couple’s vacation in Rome last October. Witherspoon had replied that it was too soon at that time. However, she has now changed her mind after getting advice from some of her friends.
One of the couple’s friends stated, "When Jake proposed in Rome, he knew Reese needed time, and didn’t really expect her to say ‘yes’ right away. He just wanted her to know that he was serious about their relationship – serious enough to make her his wife."
Witherspoon’s divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe became official on October 5.
