People’s Choice Awards Continues Despite the Strike

The 34th annual People’s Choice Awards took place yesterday evening despite the screenwriter’s strike.

Queen Latifah hosted a taped special, which was broadcast on CBS. She introduced the evening by explaining, "I know this show’s a little different than last time. But we have what’s important – you, the people, and all your favorites all night long."

Latifah announced each winner and showed a pre-recorded acceptance speech by the star. The big stars of the evening were Johnny Depp and Reese Witherspoon who were picked as people’s favorite male and female movie stars. Justin Timberlake was named favorite male singer.

A few winners pointed out that the strike by the Writer’s Guild of America has affected them greatly. Witherspoon expressed, "We are nothing without our writers. But we are also nothing without our audience."
