Paul Haggis in Talks to Direct Ranger’s Apprentice

Canadian screenwriter and director Paul Haggis may be directing the film adaptation of Ranger’s Apprentice.

United Artists got the rights to adapt the children’s literature series written by John Flanagan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production studio is in talks with Haggis to direct the first movie of the series.  These negotiations have been affected by the screenwriter’s strike, which is in its third month with no resolution in sight.

Ranger’s Apprentice tells the story of an orphan named Will who becomes an apprentice ranger and fights to keep the kingdom of Araluen safe from invaders.

Author John Flanagan wrote the series The Ruins of Gorlan which was released in 2004 in Australia, and seven months later in the United States. There are seven books in this series.
