The 43-year-old star is in discussions to take the lead role in the drama, to be directed by Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, The New World). The project will be financed by River Road.
If Pitt joins Tree of Life, he will replace Heath Ledger, and will also star with Sean Penn, who has a secondary role in the film. Tree of Life is scheduled to begin filming in the spring in Texas.
