George Clooney Defending Darfur

American actor George Clooney appealed to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to get involved in the conflict in Darfur.

Hollywood star George Clooney has been very active in trying to stop the conflict in Sudan’s Darfur. He has now asked the UAE to get involved to stop the bloodshed.

Clooney visited Dubai to promote his movie, Michael Clayton. The 46-year-old actor asked the surrounding countries not to turn their backs on the war that has been going on in Africa for the last five years.

In a press conference, Clooney explained, "We are trying to find places (through which) we can have a real conversation with people in Sudan and President Omar al-Beshir. And obviously here (in the UAE) they have an influence."

Although Clooney’s efforts have not ended the conflict yet, his work has not gone unnoticed. Clooney will receive a Peace Summit Award this week in Rome.

The genocide war in Darfur has resulted in 200 000 victims and more than 2 million refugees.
