Nicole Richie Spends Less Than Two Hours in Prison

People reported that Nicole Richie spent only 82 minutes in prison last Thursday because the prison was overcrowded.  Richie was supposed to serve a 4-day sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Richie, who is now 5-months pregnant, was accompanied by her lawyer, and her boyfriend Joel Madden, when she checked in to the prison in Lynwood, California.  The Sheriff checked in the star at 3:15 pm and she was released at 4:37 pm.  The Sheriff declared, "Miss Richie was cooperative during the process."

Richie was released by lowering her sentence, a ruling that came from the federal court.
According to the Sheriff’s policies, a woman who is not violent, and has a sentence that is less than 30 days, can be checked in and out in less than twelve hours.
