Murphy was so shocked, in fact, that she hired a private investigator to look into her man’s past.
Murphy suprised all of Hollywood last month when she secretly wed producer Simon Monjack. She has spent the past few weeks defending the Brit, who is allegedy a con man who owes thousands of dollars and faces deportation from the United States.
Murphy insists that she has no problem standing by her man, and that the stories published about Monjack are absurd. The actress told In Touch Weekly magazine, "Everything was just so fabricated and hurtful."
Murphy added that the rumours had been started by a "crazy ex-assistant" or a "crazy former girlfriend".
