Bono Honoured in the United States

U2 singer Bono has been honoured for his work in African countries.

The Irish singer has been given the Liberty Medal.  The Liberty Medal is awarded by the US National Constitution Center to recognise charity work.  Bono was selected because he "demonstrated leadership and vision in the pursuit of liberty".

The award also includes $100,000, that will be given by the artist to the Debt Aids Trade Africa foundation, which was started by Bono in 2002.

Six previous winners of the Liberty Medal have gone on to win Nobel prizes.
