Heigl’s co-star, Isaiah Washington, had made homosexual remarks regarding another star of the show, T.R. Knight, and a scandal errupted.
Last October, Washington is said to have called Knight a "faggot" during an argument with Patrck Dempsey, another of the show’s stars.
Katherine Heigl believes that the remark was the beginning of change and a way to openly discuss prejudices.
Heigl said, "I was ultimately grateful that it opened up a dialogue. To me, I wasn’t making a political stand about hurting people’s feelings."
She added, "It’s very simple in my mind. You do not actively seek to hurt other people’s feelings. I don’t care what their sexual orientation, race or gender is. We are all human beings, part of the human race, and we need to be compassionate and giving and kind with one another."
