Steven Spielberg Joins Other Stars to Help Darfur Crisis

Director Steven Spielberg has joined forces with other Hollywood stars to help bring peace to Darfur.

In a letter written to Chinese President Hu Jintao, Spielberg requested that China puts pressure on Sudan to accept the arrival of United Nations troops on their territory.

The 60-year-old director, who is the artistic consultant for China for the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, is exerting his influence so that the Sudan crisis can come to an end.

Spielberg stated, "I add my voice to those who ask that China change its policy toward Sudan."

Among many others, Spielberg requested that the Sudan government "accept the entrance of United Nations peacekeepers to protect the victims of genocide in Darfur".

The conflict in Darfur has been going on since 2003, and is named one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.  The conflict has caused more than 200 000 deaths, and more than 2 million refugees.

Last week, the stars of Ocean’s Thirteen, with George Clooney and Brad Pitt leading, started a website to raise money to help the victims of this atrocious genocide.
