According to People magazine, Gyllenhaal escaped a fire at the hotel where he was spending the holidays with his family. The Brokeback Mountain star was staying at the Manka Inverness Lodge near the San Francisco Bay.
The hotel tennents were forced to evacuate when a tree fell on the building’s water heater during a storm. A fire began on Wednesday evening, and continued until the early hours of the following morning.
Daniel DeLong, one of the resort’s owners, explained that Gyllenhaal was very helpful during the tragedy, saying, "Jake was helping me pull things out of the fire."
