The 15 year-old boy will be the replacement for the group’s former bassist, Michael Anthony.
According to a spokesperson for the group who shared the news with Billboard magazine, the son and his uncle, drummer Alex Van Halen, will be touring in 2007. No announcement has been made as to who will be singing for the rock group.
According to several rumours, former front man David Lee Roth is being considered after leaving Van Halen more than 20 years ago.
Van Halen is one of the nine artists being considered for admission to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2007.
