According to American sources, Yohane Banda refused Madonna’s offer to provide financial support in order for the father to raise the child himself. Madonna was interviewed by television hostell Meredith Viera.
The Hung Up singer explained, "When I met (Yohane), I said I would be happy to bring (David) back to your village and help you financially raise him and he said no. I think he truly felt in his heart that he would have a better life with me. So, when he said no, that was my sign that it was my responsibility to look after him."
Madonna, 48, has been criticized by a number of groups who believe that adoption laws have been bent because of her celebrity status.
David Banda, 1, is doing well with Madonna’s two biological children, Lourdes, 10, and Rocco, 6. The little boy apparently has quite a temper, but is very amusing. Madonna added, "I do have a terrible temper. I would say that’s kind of me. But obviously he’s going to come with his own baggage and I look forward to being surprised by what he’s going to offer the world."
The Madonna interview with Meredith Viera will appear today on the Today Show and Dateline NBC.
