R.E.M., Van Halen, the Stooges, Patti Smith, the Dave Clark Five, Chic, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and Joe Tex and the Ronettes are all happy to be nominated to the Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will take place on March 12 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. The new inductees will be announced in January.
To be eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the artists must have released their first single before 1981. A committee will select the finalists.
Earlier this year, Black Sabbath, the Sex Pistols, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blondie, Miles Davis, Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss were inducted.
