With a goal of paying for her son’s funeral, the former Playmate sold pictures of the 20 year-old boy who seemed to be in perfect health. The pictures were taken in the Bahamas the night before he was found dead.
Getty Images sold the pictures to In Touch magazine for $400,000 US. Editor Dan Wakeford explained, "We purchased the photos, beating the competition. The photos were extremely emotive, and our readers are incredibly intrigued by this story."
A portion of the profits from the sale, according to Getty Images, will be given to a charitable organisation in the name of David Smith. His body remains at Butler’s Funeral home in the Bahamas.
