Aguilera’s friend, former N’Sync band member Lance Bass, recently revealed that he was gay, and involved with one of the stars of television’s Amazing Race reality show, Reichen Lehmkuhl. Bass and his boyfriend want to marry, however the California law does not permit same-sex marriage. Christina Aguilera has spoken out in support of her friend. She said that she was suprised that the world has had such a reaction to Bass revealing his sexuality. She said, "I’m shocked that it’s a big deal! I’m shocked that people are shocked."
Aguilera went on to say that she supports same-sex marriage. She explained, "I think it’s really unfair that there has to be some kind of standard for marriage. Marriage should be about celebrating two people’s love for each other. It shouldn’t have anything to do with someone’s sexual preference. Europe is a lot more open when it comes to sexuality. I think that with the history of European culture, there is a lot more openness to being provocative. I’m just all about no judgement and (having) equal rights."
