In an interview with MTV, Simpson spoke about her difficult period following her decision to divorce Nick Lachey in 2005. The singer explained that while spending time with younger sister, Ashlee, she knew that she would be recording her own version of the song. Simpson said, "I knew everything would be OK. The song is about how sometimes you just have to know when to let something go. And I had to sing it."
Simpson, 26, is now officially divorced from Lachey, and her fifth album, A Public Affair, goes on sale at the end of this month. Simpson added that the title of her CD does not have anything to do with her marriage, nor do the majority of songs on the collection.
The music styles vary on the disc, from older Madonna sounds to club songs, to ballads. Simpson plans to tour after her CD is released.
