Freeman joins a cast including Affleck’s brother, Casey Affleck, as well as Michelle Monaghan and Ed Harris.
The Miramax film was inspired by the novel by Dennis Lehane, and the screenplay was written by Affleck. The story follows two detectives who are investigating the case of a missing child in a neighbourhood of broken families, bitter cops and crazy ex-cons.
Filming is set to begin on Monday in Boston.
