50 Cent Honoured by Peers

Rapper 50 Cent was honoured in the United States by his peers.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has named 50 Cent the songwriter of the year.

The American singer, who sold more than 7.5 million copies of his latest CD, was recognised at the annual event in Los Angeles.

Singer Annie Lennox received the Founders Award for her work with the Eurythmics in the 1980s and also for her solo work.

The song of the year went to Green Day for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", and also to Mariah Carey for "We Belong Together".
