The Da Vinci Code Gets Frosty Reception

The first showing of the film The Da Vinci Code was presented Wednesday at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival, and the reception was less than warm.

The film, which was adapted from Dan Brown’s book, didn’t seem to please the critics.  There was no clapping at the end of the film, and there were uncomfortable moments of laughter at inappropriate times during the film.

In addition to the critics, the film has been under attack by the Catholic church, which disapproves of the film’s message.

Directed by Ron Howard (American Graffiti, A Beautiful Mind), the film stars Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou and Jean Reno.  The Da Vinci Code suggests that Jesus had a secret romance which left a line of descendants.
