Brazilian director Andrucha Waddington will lead the project, which begins filming next September in Spain and Mexico. The budget for the film is an astounding $40 million, the biggest budget in the history of Spanish language films.
The script, written by Nicholas Kazan (Reversal of Fortune) follows the troubles encountered by Cortes when he arrives in the New World with many soldiers to stop the violence taking place in the Aztec Empire.
We can currently see Antonio Banderas in the film Take the Lead, in which he plays a dance instructor.
