United 93 To Open New York Film Festival

The film United 93, based on the true story of the plane that went down in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001, will be the opener for New York’s Tribeca Film Festival.

Festival organisers confirmed that the film which was written and directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy) will be presented first at the competition.

Founded by actor Robert DeNiro, the festival first took place eight months after the events of September 11.  DeNiro’s intention was to foster a revitalization of Manhattan after the tragedy.

The Tribeca Film Festival will be presented from April 25 through May 7.
