Former Tea Party Singer Making Return

Jeff Martin, the former singer of the Canadian rock trio, Tea Party, will launch his first solo CD on April 11.

Entitled Exile and the Kingdom, Martin’s first disc was recorded in Ireland.

In an interview with CTV, the singer talked about his departure from the band.  "We were a band of brothers,” Martin said. "After 15 years we just naturally started to drift apart. The three of us wanted different things.”

"It wasn’t an amiable breakup whatsoever, but time heals all and eventually I look forward to maybe someday us being friends again."

Exile and the Kingdom was recorded over eight days last December.  Martin said that he allowed exotic influences to help write the songs.  He added, "With the last two Tea Party records . . . the pressure from the record companies for the band to be more commercial, we started to lose our soul. This record is packed full of soul.”

Martin is planning to tour this summer.
