The Smurfs on the Big Screen

Paramount Pictures have obtained the rights to take the Smurfs to the movies in their own animated film.

The film will be produced by Jordan Kerner and Nickelodeon Movies.  There are plans to make three movies and are hoping to launch the first film in 2008, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the little blue people.

Herb Ratner will be writing the scenario.  He recently wrote Mr. Lucky for Revolution Studios.

The Smurfs were created in 1958 by Peyo (Pierre) Culliford.  NBC made the cartoon into a television series in 1981.  256 episodes were produced, and the show was an Emmy Award winner.
