He popped the question early Friday morning at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Cruise, who has been openly declaring his love for Holmes, said in a press conference, "Yes, I proposed to her. It was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven’t slept at all," he said. "Today is a magnificent day for me, I’m engaged to a magnificent woman."
When questioned about his choice of locations for the special moment, Cruise replied, "I’ve never been to the Eiffel Tower. It’s Paris, it’s a beautiful city, it’s very romantic."
Cruise, 42, is in Paris for the premier of his film War of the Worlds, directed by Steven Spielberg.
Cruise and Holmes made their relationship public knowledge in April. Rumours of marriage have been circulating since then.
