FIFM Announces Dates

The new Festival International de Films de Montreal (FIFM) will take place this year from September 18-25.

This new festival will take place immediately after the Toronto International Film Festival.  The event has been put together by a group of artists from every level of the movie industry in Montreal.

For its first installment in 2005, the Festival will run for 8 days and will feature all styles of films.

The organisers have also revealed that the Festival would use an iris as its symbol..  The trophies to be given to the winners in each category of the competition will be called "Iris".

There will be ten Iris awards in total, 2 Iris d’or and 6 Iris d’argent – to be awarded by an international panel of judges, for both long and short films – also one Iris de l’espoir for the best new entry, as well as the prestigious Iris Hommage to be given each year, that will go a person being honoured for his or her career in filmmaking.
