Avril Lavigne Takes 3 Juno Awards

Singer Avril Lavigne won three statues last night at the annual Juno awards in Winnipeg.

In spite of her absence, the star took the prizes for pop album of the year, artist of the year, and the people’s choice award.

Rapper K-OS earned the prize for song of the year.

The songwriter of the year award was given to Ron Sexsmith.  Billy Talent earned the statue for best album of the year, beating Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Diana Krall and Simple Plan in the category.  The band also won the prize for group of the year.

In the French album category, Marie-Elaine Thibert won the prize, winning over Les Trois Accords, Dany Bedar, Nicola Ciccone and Audrey de Montigny.

Also at the ceremony, the group Tragically Hip was entered into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

The evening was hosted by Brent Butt, star of the television series Corner Gas, and was held at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.  Prizes were given in 39 categories, but only 8 were televised in Sunday’s show.
