Sideways Continues to Take Awards

Sideways has won the prize for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 57th Writers Guild Awards Saturday night.

The writers behind the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind were honored for Best Original Screenplay.

Sideways is notably in competition with Million Dollar Baby and The Aviator for an Oscar for Best Film next week (February 27).  The film has already taken a Golden Globe for Best Film for a Comedy or Muscial.

The writers of Sideways, who were equally rewarded at the Golden Globes, beat films Before Sunset, Mean Girls, Million Dollar Baby, and The Motorcycle Diaries at the Writers Guild Awards ceremony.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, by Charlie Kaufman, written by Kaufmann, Michael Gondry and Pierre Bismuth, surpassed The Aviator, Garden State, Hotel Rwanda, and Kinsey in the Best Original Screenplay category.

The WGA ceremony.presented in both New York and Los Angeles, is the last significant awards ceremony before the Oscars.

Last Tuesday, in a special WGA ceremony in Hollywood, Super Size Me, the documentary by Morgan Spurlock, was honored as Best Screenplay for a Documentary.
