Darren Dreger wants the Habs to add Necas to speed up the rebuilding process

The Canadiens missed the playoffs for the third season in a row.

That said, the club is rebuilding, and while it may seem like a long process to some, there are steps to follow.

What we do know is that the club’s expectations will be higher next year.

Kent Hughes wants to improve his squad for next season without having to sacrifice his future.

The aim is to add a youngster who can help the team in the long term… And in this respect, we know that Martin Necas is a popular name in Montreal at the moment. Stéphane Waite likes him, because Lane Hutson, David Reinbacher or Logan Mailloux would be on the table if he were in charge.

Several informants have linked the player’s name to that of the Habs, the latest being Darren Dreger(The Ray & Dregs podcast).

Because in Dreger’s eyes, it’s simple: Kent Hughes must do everything in his power to ensure that next year, the club is at least in a position to compete for a playoff spot.

In his eyes, the rebuild must be completed as quickly as possible:

That’s the kind of piece you’d expect Kent Hughes to add to this team.

The rebuild is over, it has to be over in Montreal. They need to turn the corner. – Darren Dreger

Dreger goes on to say that if it doesn’t happen, fans will lose patience:

At this point, we all know Necas’ style.

We know that he shoots from the right, that he’s an explosive skater, that he’s excellent at controlling the puck, that he’s a good offensive player in the NHL…

And we also know that the Habs have their eye on him, because Darren Dreger is far from the first to link the forward’s name with that of the Habs.

To put it another way, there’s a lot, a lot of buzz around this issue.

In a way, I’m surprised, because Kent Hughes is used to keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to making a deal.

The Kirby Dach deal came out of nowhere two years ago, when we weren’t expecting to see Alexander Romanov leave… And the same can be said for the deal that brought Alex Newhook to Montreal last summer.

On the other hand, the fact that Dreger only mentioned the Habs among the teams with (a lot of) interest in Necas seems to put even more emphasis on the idea of seeing him play in Montreal next year.

– A reminder:

– This would be a major blow for the Stars…

– He’s going to break the bank.

– Still, it’s special.
