Amber Heard ‘absolutely’ not able to pay $10M in damages
Amber Heard ‘s lawyer says her client can’t afford to pay the amount a court ordered her to pay after losing the lawsuit by her ex-husband, actor Johnny Depp.
Yesterday (June 1), a Fairfax,Virginia jury ordered actress Amber Heard to pay $15 million to her ex-husbandJohnny Deppfor publicly defaming her in a 2018 Washington Post article.
At the end of a trial that had the crowds running, the sentence was revised to a sum of 10.4 million (US) to be paid to the actor. At the same time, the actor must pay 2 million to his ex-wife.
In an interview on NBC’s Today show this morning (June 2),Amber Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, when asked if her client would be able to pay the $10.4 million in damages that the Virginia jury imposed on her, replied without the slightest hesitation: « Oh, no, absolutely not. »
Johnny Depp claimed at trial that he lost more than $22 million as a result of the defamation suffered by his ex-wife.
Both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are said to be on the verge of resuming their professional activities in the coming months, and returning to the big screen.
