  • TMZ reports that Maddox wants to drop "Pitt" from his name.
  • He is credited as “Maddox Jolie” in the film Couture.
  • He is the first child adopted by Angelina Jolie, and was later adopted by Brad Pitt in 2005.
  • Several of the couple’s children are also said to have dropped the “Pitt” name.

According to a report by TMZ, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, the son of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has reportedly decided to drop his father’s last name as well. According to the report, he has filed legal documents to officially change his name, requesting the removal of “Pitt” and adopting “Maddox Chivan Jolie” instead.

Professionally, Maddox has already been credited under a simplified version of his name. He appeared as “Maddox Jolie” in Angelina Jolie’s recent film, Couture, where he worked as an assistant director. This appearance in the film’s credits suggests that he is already using this identity in a professional capacity, consistent with the process outlined in the legal documents.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie built their family gradually, first by adopting three children, before later welcoming three biological children.

Maddox is the first child adopted by Angelina Jolie, whom she welcomed from Cambodia in 2002, at a time when she was not yet in a relationship with Brad Pitt. Pitt, after beginning his relationship with Angelina Jolie in 2005, also adopted Maddox that same year, thereby formalizing his role as a father within the Jolie-Pitt family.

Maddox’s request to change his name has not yet been approved, but an official decision is expected to be made soon.

Riding the Wave

This complex family situation is part of a broader trend in which several of the children have reportedly chosen to change or adapt their last names, whether officially or in a more personal context.

Maddox thus appears to be following a trend already observed among some of his siblings, who have also distanced themselves from the name “Pitt.” Indeed, Shiloh reportedly underwent an official name change, while Zahara reportedly decided to stop using it informally in certain contexts. For her part, Vivienne reportedly also removed the name from the program of a Broadway production in which she appeared.

These various decisions, though distinct, are part of a broader trend in which Brad Pitt’s children appear to be distancing themselves from him.

Allegations and Divorce

The romantic relationship between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, followed by their separation, was marked by a long and difficult journey for both parties. According to TMZ, their divorce was finally settled after more than eight years of proceedings and negotiations, bringing an end to a particularly complex legal battle.

Shortly after filing for divorce, Angelina Jolie accused Brad Pitt of violent behavior toward at least one of their children. The actor has always denied these allegations and was subsequently cleared by the relevant authorities following investigations. Despite this, Angelina Jolie pursued certain legal actions for several years, keeping the case open regarding various aspects of the dispute.

Furthermore, their separation is not limited to this episode. The two former spouses are also embroiled in another major legal dispute concerning their vineyard in France, a case that has also fueled numerous tensions between them over time.
