Avril Lavigne Faces Lawsuit

Singer Chantal Kreviazuk is accusing Lavigne of copying one of her songs, The Best Damn Thing.

Also, the band The Rubinoos have filed paperwork in California claiming that Lavigne copied their song I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, written in 1979, into her successful hit Girlfriend.

Chantal Kreviazuk made the suprising accusation just days ago to Performing Songwriter magazine.  Kreviazuk claims that she offered the song to Lavigne two years ago, but on Lavigne’s latest disc, the credits only go to Lavigne and Evan Taubenfeld.

Avril Lavigne’s disc The Best Damn Thing has already sold more than 4 million copies.
