Dan Brown Defends Himself in Court

The American writer was in a London court after authors Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh filed documents claiming that Brown’s book stole the original themes from their book, Holy Blood, Holy Grail.

Brown, 41, said in a statement, "I have been shocked at their reaction. Furthermore I do not really understand it."

Both of the books theorize that Jesus did not die on the cross, and was in fact married to Mary Magdalene, and that they had a child.

Since its release in 2003, Da Vinci Code has sold more than 40 million copies and has been translated into 44 different languages.

The London hearing will continue next week.
