Gogic would have set up a team with the aim of transporting this large quantity of « coke » to Europe from Colombia via the United States using commercial freighters.
The arrest was made Sunday night at an international airport in Miami, as the ex-boxer was boarding a flight.
He is facing three charges under the Maritime Drug Law Enforcement Act, in addition to one charge of conspiracy.
In the event of a conviction, the mandatory minimum sentence would be ten years and it could even go up to life in prison.
« The seizure of a billion dollars worth of cocaine was a major blow to Gogic’s criminal network, but nothing could be heavier than his arrest last night, » said Frank A. Tarentino III, a special agent in charge of New York’s drug trafficking division.
Recall that Gogic boxed professionally from 2001 to 2012, compiling a 21-4-2 record during that decade.
