30 Seconds To Mars’s get political in This Is War video

Dramatic cinematography and plenty of special effects make this video a powerful, gritty must-see.

The high-budget, epic new video for This Is War from hard rockers 30 Seconds To Mars certainly packs a dramatic, political punch. Directed by Hollywood actor turned lead singer, Jared Leto, the video is more of a short film, rife with camo, firearms, tanks and aircraft carriers against the desert backdrop of the purported  Middle East.

The video opens with a quote from H.G. Wells (“If we don’t end war, war will end us”) and is filled with copyrighted war footage, special effects and appreciable slow motion sequences. As might be expected, the band uses This Is War as a vehicle to convey their political leanings: that George W. Bush is a liar and Martin Luther King a hero. And in just under six minutes, when the bullets, flying tanks and dust settle, the video cuts to black without any neat conclusion, leaving viewers to decide for themselves what it’s all supposed to mean.
