3D Glee movie coming soon

Live concert film in theaters two weeks only this summer.

Popular television series Glee will become a 3D live concert film. Glee Live! 3D! will be filmed during the show’s upcoming North American tour, Glee Live! In Concert!, which begins May 21 in Las Vegas and wraps June 18 in Uniondale, New York, before moving on to the U.K., reports Deadline.

Directed by Kevin Tancharoen (Fame), the film will feature live performances and behind-the-scenes footage of 14 original cast members including Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt ) Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike), Chord Overstreet ( Sam), Darren Criss (Blaine) and Ashley Fink (Lauren).

Glee Live! 3D! will be released in theatres on August 12, for two weeks only. Gleeks who were unable to get concert tickets will be able to see the concert in 3D in the theater. Due to the show’s huge fan base, the idea of a filmed concert could be just as lucrative as it was for Michael Jackson’s This Is It! and Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never.

Originally planned as a film, Glee was rewritten as a TV series and quickly purchased by 20th Century Fox TV – the same network that broadcasts another popular singing show, American Idol.

On the air since 2009, the series has won many awards, including the prestigious Emmy Awards and Golden Globes.
