The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced the seven films contending for an Oscar in the special effects category.
The films Australia, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Iron Man, Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor are competing for the award.
On January 17, members of the Academy will view 10 minutes of each nominated film, and will have to cast their vote for the best three films.
The unveiling of the Oscar nominees will take place on January 22, one month before the ceremony.
