A cancer vaccine is coming

An injection that stops the development of deadly forms of cancer will be offered in the future.

According to the NY Daily News, a special injection that stops the spread of many deadly cancers could be on the market within five years.

The vaccine is effective against breast, bowel and cervical cancers and is already being tested on some patients.

The vaccine was developed by a U.S. company called Celldex Therapeutics. It boosts the immune system and prompts it to destroy a hormone called hCG.

This hormone is normally produced by pregnant women. However, about half of patients who suffer from bladder or pancreatic cancer produce it too, as well as some people who have breast, bowel, ovarian and cervical tumours.

For these people, the injection acts to shrink tumours and stop their progression.

The vaccine is now being tested on 60 patients who suffer from bladder cancer. It has also been tested on animals with "extremely good" results.
