The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Izabella Miko and Andrew McCarthy have already joined the cast.
The film was inspired by the successful books by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi, about two brothers, Jared and Simon, and their sister Mallory, who discover a world of fairies and other creatures.
Freddie Highmore will play the brothers, who are twins, and Sarah Bolger will play Mallory. Mary-Louise Parker would play their mother, who has recently separated from their father, played by McCarthy. Nolte and Short would provide voices to creatures.
Filming has already stared in Montreal, Canada.
