A Challenge for Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres will be hosting the 2007 Oscars.

According to People magazine, Ellen DeGeneres will have the challenge of hosting the Oscars in February 2007.  Ellen has previously hosted the Emmy Awards.  Recently, it was made official that she will be the host for the Oscars.  The announcement was made by the Motion Picture Academy.

DeGeneres, 48, expressed, "When (Oscars producer) Laura Ziskin called, I was thrilled…There’s two things I’ve always wanted to do in my life. One is to host the Oscars. The second is to get a call from Laura Ziskin. You can imagine that day’s diary entry."

Ziskin added, "Ellen DeGeneres was born to host the Academy Awards. There is no more challenging hosting job in show business. It requires someone who can keep the show alive and fresh and moving."

DeGeneres will be hosting and entertaining on this big night for the first time, although she has certainly proven she has the talent to pull it off after hosting the Emmy Awards in 2001.

This 79th edition of the Oscars will be presented by ABC on February 25, 2006.  This gala will be held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.  Ellen DeGeneres will be following in the footsteps of previous hosts such as Billy Crystal, Bob Hope and Whoopi Goldberg.
