A film centred on Broken Social Scene

A Broken Social Scene concert is the crux of the film coming out this month.

Bruno and Caroline have always been great friends but Bruno harbours a secret… he’s got a crush on Caroline. She is scheduled to fly out of Toronto to go study in France. A Broken Social Scene concert provides the backdrop for a magical moment that leads to a memorable night. The movie is being promoted as "one love … one night … one show."

That’s story in the film This Movie is Broken. It gives filmmaker Bruce McDonald a chance to put one of his favourite bands in the spotlight. Indie group Broken Social Scene, like Arcade Fire, has really left its marks on the Canadian music scene over the last decade. And, like the Montreal-based group, BSS is releasing a new album this year after several years off the radar.

McDonald has delivered memorable Canadian flicks like Highway 61 and Hard Core Logo. He called on buddy Don McKellar to write this adventure about two friends at a Broken Social Scene concert.

The director worked with BSS in 2007 when the group provided the music for his film The Tracey Fragments starring Ellen Page. She also received a lot of buzz for her performance in 2007’s Juno.

The film This Movie is Broken will hit theatres on June 25.
