A Halifax Favourite Gets a New Locale

The Farmer’s Market in Halifax is moving to a new location due to its success in light of the world going green.

There are some tourist attractions in certain places that don’t revolve around the history of a monument or building, warm waters, or quiet beaches.  Some places don’t offer snowcapped mountain peaks either, but instead provide a slice of the cultural life.  For many travelers, a Saturday morning market place where shoppers and merchants converge can create its own magic.

The Halifax Farmer’s Market has a bit of everything to offer visitors.  From the people to the best of the earth and sea, this market is Nova Scotia at its best.  However, the unexpected success of the market has forced authorities to build a brand new site.

The Farmer’s Market will soon be located near the site of the historic Pier 21.  Facing the sea, the new locale will use the wind and coolness of the sea to maximize use of new green technologies.  The result should reduce energy consumption at the site by 85%.  The market will be ready for customers in the summer of 2010.
