A New Band with Coldplay, A-Ha and Mew

Chris Martin, Coldplay’s frontman, previously revealed that the group A-Ha was one of the reasons that he wanted to create his own band.  The group from Finland was a huge hit in the 1980s with songs like Take On Me and The Sun Always Shines On TV.  The band also wrote and performed the James Bond song The Living Daylights in 1987.

Now that A-Ha has announced their breakup after more than 25 years in the music business, Martin is perhaps jealous to learn that his Coldplay mate, Guy Berryman, is joining A-Ha’s Magne Furuholmen and Jonas Bjerre of Mew to create a new band.

The new group began taking shape last year while working together for the charity track Ferreting for the Amazon Tribe album.  It seems that their collaboration left them all feeling that there were more songs to write.  The new band, called Apparatjik, will release their debut album on November 30.

Last week, the group emailed only 30 fans a recording of their song Electric Eye.  Other songs have already made their way onto the Internet, particularly on YouTube.

There has been no word on whether Berryman will be leaving Coldplay.
