A New Drama for Robert Redford

Robert Redford will be directing a film about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, entitled The Conspirator.

According to Risky Biz, Redford will soon be behind the cameras for The Conspirator.

The project will mark Redford’s eighth time as a director.  He earned an Oscar for directing the film Ordinary People in 1980.

The Conspirator was written by James Solomon, and recounts the implication of Mary Surratt in the assassination of the 16th American president in 1865.  She later became the first woman to be executed by the American government.

The film’s producers would love to see James McAvoy in a key role, perhaps as Surratt’s lawyer, Frederick Aiken.  Filming is set to begin this fall.
