According to Variety, Wahlberg, 35, will be directed by filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan in the thriller.
The Happening follows a man (Wahlberg) who takes his family on the run when a natural crisis threatens to demolish the earth.
Shyamalan is co-producing the project, which is expected to be released on June 13, 2008 by 20th Century Fox.
