The film has been regarded as controversial after the German government refused to allow Cruise to film in their country because of his Scientology beliefs. Permission was later granted.
The feature film will be directed by Bryan Singer and also stars Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Patrick Wilson, Stephen Fry, Tom Wilkinson, Carice van Houten and Eddie Izzard.
In the film, Cruise will play Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, a German officer who is behind a plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Filming began yesterday, July 16.
